A.      Understanding Nouns

Nouns are everything we see or can talk about and that shows people, things, places, plants, animals, ideas and so on. or it could be interpreted A noun is the name of a person or thing, so noun noun can be a person's name, place, thing, and quality.

B.       The Kinds Of Nouns

Nouns are of five different kinds :

1.         Proper (one thing at time)

2.         Common (any number of things)

3.         Collective (a group of things)

4.         Material (what a thing is made of)

5.         Abstact (quality, state, or action)

Proper nouns

A proper noun denotes one particular person or thing as distinct from every other

Example : A person's name, City Name, Animal name

Statitionary name, Country Name.

Common nouns

A common noun denotes no one person or thing in particular, but is common noun to any and every person or thing of the some kind.

Example : Car, Motorcycle, Truck, Book, Bread

Bicycle, Cell phone, Television

Collective nouns

A collective noun denotes a group or collection of similiar individual, considered as one complete whole.

Example : Jury, Team, Cabinet of minister

Choir, Regiment

Noun of material

A noun of material denotes the matter or substance of wich certain things are made.

Example : Gold     Blood     Soil     Fire

Silver     Water     Air    

Abstract nouns

An abstract noun denotes some quality, state or action a part from any object or objects.

Example : Happiness

Sadness

Statement

Agreement

C.      COUNTABLE AND UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS

1.         Countable Nouns

Countable noun is a noun that can be counted.

Singular Plural

One teble

One pen

One pencil

Two tables

Three pens

Four pencil

2.         Uncountable Nouns

Uncountable nouns is a noun that can not be calculated as water, sand, ink, coffee, sugar, and so forth.

Some pens

Two eggs

Some ink

Some water

Uncountable nouns can be stated in units with word such as : a cup of, a plate of, a glass of.

Noun serves as the subject object as well as the word modifier in the sentence.
